Hey there Urbanites,
I hope everyone is having a fantastic holiday season. Sorry for the lack of updates. You’d think with all the skipping out I was doing on writing lately that I’d have thought to write one or two more of these in here. Alas.
Anyway, let’s get caught up.
Just today a post went up that I have to link to. Paragon City: The Birthplace of Tomorrow is a great piece covering all the various games that are under development as well as discussing some of the efforts being done to resurrect the original as well. Don’t miss that or yesterday’s article going over all the missed potential that existed in City of Heroes and the way that NC Soft really did shoot themselves in the foot for shutting things down when they did. I know I’m going to be looking over this blog a lot more closely now that it’s been brought to my attention.
If you missed my article pointing out the similarities between Overwatch and City of Heroes, I would point out that I wasn’t the only one who thought about it when seeing the teaser trailers. Nic Rowan at Destructiod explores a hypothetical about the original Titan project of Blizzard and what it could have been. I don’t think he’s right. It was well rumored that once Destiny was revealed, Blizzard basically had to scrap the project because it was too derivative of Destiny’s work. Unconfirmed of course but we’ll never know one way or another. Still it’s nice to see I’m not the only one pining for the good ole days.
Speaking of Destiny, there was an interesting post on why you shouldn’t max your level in Destiny from Ten Ton Hammer a while back. It basically boils down to figuring out what you want to do and only maxing out if you really really want the end game content. Because if you do, boy is it going to cost you.
In other MMO news, I read through this post on the Follies of Wildstar and couldn’t help but notice how many of the things that have gone wrong have extended from bad development practices that are oh so familiar to long time MMO players. I wish no ill fortune on the dev teams at Carbine but I am a bit unsurprised at what’s happened given their attitudes about things I’ve seen in the past. Go read the article if you want the full take down.
Sadly, I’ve been out of the loop for a bit and I’m not sure what everyone is playing right now. I know that there are still some Urbanites running around Guild Wars 2, but I haven’t heard much news about anything else lately. I am looking at starting up some Mass Effect 3 multi-player in the near future and would love for some fps people to join me if you’re up for it (HOLY COW, it’s fun!!!). Just shoot me an email or leave a comment.
And that’s it for now. Next week we’ll do a run down on my recent Black Friday Steam purchases and you will see me trying to get into the FPS swing of things a bit more. No plans to take a Christmas break from posting so hang around for all that’s to come.
